Collage Assignment

Due Tuesday, February 3rd

Create two collages using Adobe Photoshop. Both collages should use the layering and masking abilities of Photoshop to combine a number of images to make a statement. Locate images online based on the ideas that you wish to express. You can also use a camera or scanner to capture images you wish to use. Additionally, use not less than one word and not more than one sentence of text to help convey your message.

Follow these criteria for the assignment:

Collage One: a persuasive statement Use this collage to make a point about an issue that concerns you. You might, for instance, compose a collage in favor or in opposition to a global concern like deforestation. You could select a national or local issue, like health care, consumerism, media influence, NCAA or college concerns. The key is finding a topic that you have a strong feeling for, Once you have the topic, select appropriate images and think of ways of manipulating them to convey a message that will convince others of your position on the issue. Also think of how you can use text deliberately to complement your images and deliver your message. Consider issues of audience, your representation as a speaker, and your purpose as you compose.

Collage Two: A personal exploration This collage should express an aspect of your identity that relates to communication. How do you like to communicate? How has communication shaped who you are? Do you like to read? Watch T.V.? Listen to music? What do you like to watch or hear or read? Develop a collage that demonstrates your thinking about language, communication, and your identity. Again, select appropriate images. Collect photos, scan items, or do whatever else you can to put a personal stamp on this collage. Add any small bits of text that will also help you express yourself.

The collages " should be 800X600 pixels in size " should use at least four images each " should include at least one word, but not more than a sentence. (If you feel as if you can develop a collage better without text, speak with me first.) " and should be posted to the Web. (I will give you instructions for this in another assignment.)
